On planet pop culture, photographer/curator and animal rights activist Paige Powell knows everyone there is to know. And in the 80s, Powell worked for Andy Warhol’s Interview magazine and dated the artist Jean-Michel Basquiat for two years. During their relationship, Powell took pictures of Basquiat at his studio on Crosby Street and in her Upper West Side apartment. These photographs – some showing Basquiat in the buff watching cartoons or drawing – are part of Powell’s first photography show Jean-Michel Basquiat Recling Nude at the Suzanne Geiss Company (76 Grand Street). The show runs from January 16th-February 22nd.
