Il Mulino New York has been a New York staple for years now—the restaurant is a favorite among uptowners and downtowners alike. And as much as we all love a snazzy, delicious meal at Il Mulino, sometimes we need something a little more casual. Good new is, we can have our Il Mulino and eat it in a more casual environment too.

The laid-back, Trattoria Il Mulino opened its doors in September, welcoming guests with the same Il Mulino quality but a menu to fit the space.

Trattoria Il Mulino targets the younger generation of those who frequent Il Mulino. Perfectly described as “the cooler little sister of Il Mulino New York,” by Owner Lee Katzoff and Creative Director Rozhia Tabnak, who have beautifully crafted a space that’s both luxurious and casual.

Katzoff and Tabnak got their inspiration from everyday New York sightings and brought together an industrial look with a chic twist. Katzoff hired Tim Barnard to create a mural covering the restaurant’s entire back wall. The intricate black and white metropolitan punk-themed piece instantly catches your eye as you enter the inviting space. Barnard’s work was initially discovered one weekend in Washington Square Park. A few months later, Katzoff commissioned Barnard to create this masterful mural.

Executive Chef Michele Mazza, who has held his post since 2003, crafted a menu that infuses prized Il Mulino New York flavors. The brunch menu offers a variety of  choices from salad, antipasta, pizza and seafood. And while brunch is impeccable, the chic spot—with delicious cuisine from the region of Abruzzo, Italy—makes it a great stop for a Gramercy Park power lunch, too!
