Talking to the jewelry designer Aurélie Bidermann brings to mind the Pharrell Williams song “Happy.” The Parisian jeweler, whose spring and summer collections include gems in yellow, coral and turquoise hues—“happy” colors as she describes them—recently opened her eponymous boutique at the corner of Lafayette and Prince Streets.

“I love the location,” she says. “Lafayette reflects the New York ambience. It has a cool vibe and the people who I want to touch live downtown.” Bidermann—who splits her time between Paris and New York City (she lives on the Upper East Side about 10 days out of every month)—already has a following uptown, with her pieces available at Barneys. Another reason she chose the downtown location? “It’s next to my second office, Sant Ambroeus,” she jokes in her French accent.

As the designer’s first stateside store, the boutique will include Manhattan exclusives like a “Big Apple” charm. “The inspiration for the New York store is the same DNA as Paris but with an American laid-back vibe. My brand is very sunny, warm and happy, so I chose [to reflect] California in the ’60s and ’70s,” she explains.

The shop will also house signature pieces like lace cuffs, created by dipping antique lace found in flea markets in gold (she uses the same process with other nature-inspired pieces, including real tarantulas, beetles, ginkgo leaves and butterflies). When visiting the store, expect to spot celebrities Emma Watson, Zoe Saldana, Mary-Kate Olsen and Beyoncé—all fans of the brand. Ooh là là.  aureliebidermann.com
